The Wisconsin state flag is charged with the state seal on a navy blue background. The words Wisconsin and 1848 are above and below the seal, respectively. The year 1848 was when Wisconsin was admitted to the Union. The state motto, “Forward” is at the top of the seal. A badger, the state animal sits below this; there is a sailor and a yeoman on either side of the seal.
